Voluntary distributed computing is a fairly popular way to conduct large-scale scientific experiments. The organization of computational experiments on a specific topic involves the creation of a project of voluntary distributed computing (VDC-project). The community of volunteers is about several million people around the world. To increase the computing power of a VDC-project, technical methods can be used to increase the efficiency of the calculations. However, methods of attracting new volunteers and the motivation of this virtual community to provide computing resources are equally important. Organizers of VDC-projects, as a rule, are specialists in applied fields, but not in the organization of voluntary distributed computing and interaction with the virtual community. To help the organizers of the VDC-projects, a index and a multi-criteria method for evaluating various VDC-projects were created. A modified method is proposed for assessing the strengths and weaknesses of VDC-projects, based on the lexicographic approach. A methodology for the development of distributed computing projects with the participation of volunteers based on the application of the results of multi-parameter and index estimates is considered. Analysis of the evaluation results led to the conclusion that it is advisable to create a methodology for monitoring the development of the project. The article describes the monitoring technique of the VDC-project. An example of monitoring a VDC-project is given.
