Rapid development of Computer and Internet technologies gave a boost to large-scale growth of computer slang in Russian and English languages. Computer slang can be divided into some layers depending on the groups of peo-ple using these or those expressions, on the lexico-semantic meaning as well as on the slang structure from linguistic point of view. We can observe different lin-guistic devices affecting computer slang forming.Slang expressions originate in speech. They are marked by more or less bright emotional colouring, tend to develop rapidly and migrate to other parts of vocabu-lary. There are some functions of slang such as nominative, evaluative, manipula-tive, creating ironic and humorous effects. Computer slang deserves careful study. Studying computer slang is important in different social programs, education, developing Corpus and Computer Lin-guistics. With regard to IT-related education, studying computer slang would help University graduates of Computer Science faculties to get benefits from their ed-ucation. Improving knowledge base in the field of computer slang would give fresh specialists guidance in the vast sea of information as well as help in their fruitful communication with professionals in the sphere of Computer and Internet technologies.
